A Life Remembered

Obituary

Thomas Martin Ertl, 59, of Kenosha, WI, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at his home.

Born on June 7, 1967, in Evergreen Park, IL, he was the son of Thomas Henry and Sharon Marie (Zach) Ertl. He attended Marist High School in Chicago, IL. He was a member of the wrestling team - he was instrumental in securing a 3rd place finish in the state duals his senior year when he scored a dramatic pin over his opponent in the heavyweight match.

Thomas worked in warehouse management for various companies.

He was someone who found joy in the simple things that made life his own. Music was a big part of who he was, and he loved playing bass guitar with different cover bands. There was something special about seeing him with a bass in his hands, doing something he truly enjoyed.

At home, he loved spending time with his cats, Stevie and Sally, who were more than just pets—they were part of his family and brought him so much companionship and happiness. He could always carry on a good conversation about sports, especially when it came to his beloved Chicago Bears. Whether talking about a game, playing Xbox, or sharing his thoughts about his favorite teams, he always had something to say.

He was also a true TV and movie buff. He loved getting lost in a good movie or show and took great pride in his huge movie collection. Those interests, along with his music, his cats, sports, and gaming, were all little pieces of what made him uniquely him.

More than anything, he will be remembered for the things he loved, the conversations he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created with the people around him. Those memories will remain in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Thomas is survived by his son, Billy Ertl; mother, Sharon Ertl; two sisters, Lisa (Tim) Collier and Denise (Allen) Hansen; nephew, Ronny; niece, Allisen; great-nephew, Kyrie; and his best friend, Marty Barlow.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas H. Ertl.

Private family services were held.
