A Legacy of Compassionate Service

In 1928, James Crossin built the first facility in Kenosha dedicated exclusively to providing funeral services. Located downtown at the corner of 60th Street and 12th Avenue, it stood apart at a time when other funeral homes were converted residences or businesses. This historic "first" symbolizes our leadership in the community — a tradition carried on today by the Proko Family.

John Proko purchased the well-established firm in 1962. His son Larry joined the family business in 1982, and Larry's daughter Rachael joined in 2006. Together, their leadership and dedication to excellence have resulted in a number of significant achievements.

  • Proko Funeral Home was the first to install a crematory in Kenosha County, and remains one of the few funeral homes in the county with a crematory on premise.
  • Both John and Larry are certified members of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice — a distinction earned only after rigorous academic and professional achievement.
  • Both men have served as President of the Wisconsin State Funeral Directors Association.
  • Rachael is currently the Vice President for the Southeastern Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association.
  • Proko Funeral Home has been awarded the Pursuit of Excellence Award by the National Funeral Directors Association for a number of years.
  • Proud members of the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
  • Licensed in both Wisconsin and Illinois.

Proko Funeral Home is locally owned and operated by the Proko Family. Our roots are here in Kenosha. That's why we take pride in the community. Our entire staff is involved in numerous local charities, service clubs, churches, and other organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life in Kenosha.
