Thomas L Welter

1961 ∼ 2026

Thomas L Welter

Thomas L. Welter, 64, of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at his home on June 26, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born in LaGrange, Illinois, on August 26, 1961, to Lillian (Schuda) Hucker, and George Welter. He grew up in the small town of Willow Springs, Illinois, where he spent his childhood exploring the woods in the forest preserve near his home.

He attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Upon graduation, there were few jobs available, so he used the knowledge he gained to be an Automotive Technician.

Devoted to his family, he would travel to work in Schamburg, Illinois from his home in Pleasant Prairie for over 25 years. He was also a guy who could fix anything. Tom was a master of improvisation.

Tom married Barbara Beyer on July 16, 1983. Together they had two amazing children, Amy (Kevin) Hansen and Michael. The family moved several times before settling down in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin in 1987.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and hike. He and Barb were constantly seeking outdoor adventures. The two did everything together.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife Barb; children, Amy (Kevin) Hansen, and Michael Welter; granddaughters, Anna Hansen and Molly Hansen; and brothers Steve (Lorrie) Welter and David (Stacey) Welter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian (Schuda) Hucker and George Welter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Wisconsin Ducks Unlimited or City of Hope’s Walk for Hope in support of cancer research. To make a gift in Tom’s memory, please visit the Walk for Hope Tom Welter Tribute Page. Please click 'In Lieu of Flowers' at the top of the page to be directed to Tom's page.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. at Proko Funeral Home.

My dearest friend,, I still remember the day you and Tom met in high school, your HS crush that soon became more and the your forever day together came! A love story for the books! I can only imagine the pain and sorry it took for you and your family to say goodbye, and Tom saying the same. Please know he is still with and many. Though a quiet man he always cares, was caring and loving. May god wrap his arms of compassion around around you and the children and comfort you greatly. So very very sorry for your lost SS. Tom was a great guy. Worked with him at the dealer in Schaumburg. Smart technician, always willing to help out. He took me out on his boat a few times, salmon fishing. A lot of fun! Great guy all around! You will be missed. RIP
