It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Michael “Mickey” Principe, Mickey passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026. He was 85 years old.
Known for his kind heart, warm smile, and generous spirit, Mickey devoted himself to his faith, family, work, community, and lifelong friendships. Through his leadership and unwavering commitment to others, he became a deeply respected and beloved member of the Kenosha community.
Mickey was born in Kenosha, WI on February 12, 1941, to Michael A. and Mary (Calabrese) Principe. He was the eldest of three sons including Terrence (Terry) and the late William (Bill) Principe.
He graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1959 and began working in a third-generation family plumbing business for more than six decades. He obtained a master plumber’s license in 1971. He and his brothers incorporated the business as Michael Principe Plumbing Co. in 1981, which they operated together until 2020. Mickey was a proud member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 118 for 45 years and served as a Trustee of the Union’s Pension Fund starting in 1990.
He married his high school sweetheart, Louise Domenk, in Kenosha at St. Mary Catholic Church on October 22, 1960. Their 65-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two daughters: Shelly and Kristine (Kris).
Above all, Mickey treasured his family. He took great pride in being a grandfather to his four grandchildren and made it a priority to be present for their activities, accomplishments and milestones. He and Louise traveled regularly to Minnesota and Lake Geneva to spend time with their family.
His Catholic faith was an important part of his life. Mickey and Louise were active parishioners at St. Mary Catholic Church. Together, they served as Eucharistic Ministers for over 20 years. He volunteered with the Inns Program to provide meals and shelter for Kenosha County’s homeless.
Mickey’s Italian-American heritage was an important part of his life. His grandfather was instrumental in helping build the current Italian American Society of Kenosha, and the Principe family has supported the organization for decades. Mickey became a member in 1974 and served on its Board of Directors from 1975 through 2024. On October 12, 2025, he was honored as the Society’s Person of the Year, an honor that brought tremendous pride to Mickey and his family.
Mickey was also a devoted friend. His closest group of friends, affectionately known as the “six-pack,” shared countless fun adventures together. Along with his brothers and friends, Mickey became an accomplished winemaker.
Mickey and Louise were legendary hosts. Their home was always open, their table welcoming, and their kitchen filled with food, laughter and conversation. Their home reflected the best of their Italian heritage - a place where family and friends gathered freely, where no one was a stranger, and where there was always room for one more.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Louise; daughter Shelly Marie Principe, son-in-law Glenn MacDonald, and grandchildren Abaigh and Liam; daughter Kristine Principe Axelson, son-in-law Dan Axelson, and grandchildren Josephine and Katelyn Houlton and her new husband, Tyler Houlton, whom Mickey was so happy to welcome into the family; brother Terrance Principe; sisters-in-law Michelle “Dolly” Crane and Lonise Principe; brother-in-law Harry Crane; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mickey leaves behind much more than a lifetime of accomplishments. He leaves the traditions he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless memories made around his table. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his warmth, generosity and love will remain in the lives of those fortunate enough to have shared in his.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Proko Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, and entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum, Pleasant Prairie, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: St. Mary Catholic Church and the American Heart Association.
