Michael Holzer

Michael F Holzer, 62, of Kenosha, passed away on September 3, 2026, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee due to complications of cancer.

A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on September 20, 1963 and was the son of Francis and Lillian (Simo) Holzer. Michael attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School, and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1981.

He was united in marriage to Amy (Wiersum) Holzer on October 22, 1994. They met on a party bus going to a Brewer’s game in 1993, and have been inseparable since.

Mike was well known and well loved by many people in this town. From bowling leagues to golfing to being an avid sports fan, he was able to make a friend wherever he went. Mike was always an avid sports fan even when it did not go his way.

Mike also enjoyed fishing, and caught the “biggest” fish in Bird Lake, Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin.

Mike was a genuinely kind man. He was always a hard worker, but knew how to have fun. Whether it was in his backyard with his friends and family, or at Halloween parties with his unforgettable costumes. Mike was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. He had a very strong faith ever since he was a little boy, and always lived his life according to his faith by being considerate, compassionate, and thoughtful.

Mike was a foodie. He loved good food, supper clubs, but most importantly he enjoyed cooking holiday meals for his family and friends. He spent hours in the kitchen on holidays, and always did it with pride. We will miss all of it.

He started working at the Kenosha News when he was 16, and continued there for many years. Most recently, he was employed by Ivanhoe Industries.

He is survived by his wife Amy (Wiersum) Holzer, and his two beautiful daughters, Allison and Megan Holzer. He is further survived by many loving cousins, in-laws, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Francis and Lillian Holzer, he was preceded in death by his brother Mark Holzer.

A visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. Prayers will be held at the funeral home the following day, Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at St. Anthony of Padua, 2223 51st St. Burial St. George Cemetery.
