A Life Remembered

Obituary

John L. Jansen, 89, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, just days after celebrating his birthday. He was born on June 15, 1937, the son of John and Alma (Schmidt) Jansen.

John proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his dedication, sense of duty, and love of country.

Following his military service, John devoted more than 47 years of his life to working as a machinist for Eaton Corporation/Dynamatic, retiring in 2000.

In 1969, John married Bertha Severt. Together they built a loving home and raised their two children.

A devoted Wisconsin sports fan, John rarely missed cheering on the Brewers or the Packers. He proudly supported his home teams through every victory and defeat.

He found joy in life's everyday routines. A good cup of coffee and a captivating mystery novel were among his favorite ways to spend a quiet afternoon. He also looked forward to lunch at the Park Inn in Racine, where he enjoyed good food and familiar faces.

Above all, John treasured his family. His greatest happiness came from sharing his grandchildren’s accomplishments. He rarely missed one of Cam’s games or activities, and he would share Aeryn’s diving accomplishments via video and pictures with anyone he could.

John is survived by his children, Dan Jansen and Elaine (William) Wickersheim; grandchildren, Camdin Jansen, and Aeryn Wickersheim; brother, James Jansen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bertha; infant son, John Anthony; and sisters, Judy, Janet, and Joyce.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Proko Funeral Home. A family Eulogy will be shared at 11:45 A.M. Interment will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
