A Life Remembered

Obituary

Passed away on May 30, 2026, at the age of 92 years. Born on May 7, 1934, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Jim was the son of Carl and Yolanda (Romano) Greco.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era. Rather than being deployed overseas, he was selected to attend IBM School, where he became one of a select group of Marines trained in the emerging field of computer technology and data processing—well ahead of his time. His military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life. In August 2021, Jim was honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., where he visited the nation’s military memorials—an experience he deeply cherished.

As a young man, Jim was an accomplished athlete and earned recognition as a Wisconsin Golden Gloves Welterweight Champion. Throughout his life, Jim maintained excellent physical condition by playing softball, racquetball, golfing, and working out well into his late 80s.

Jim’s strong work ethic and pioneering interest in computer technology and data processing led to a successful career working with computer systems, starting with American Motors Corporation, then Kenosha Auto Transportation, and ultimately concluding his career with Abbott Laboratories, where he worked for many years before retiring in 1992 as a Senior Systems Analyst.

In 1987, Jim married the love of his life, Renee Jung. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family. Jim was a dedicated husband and father who took great pride in caring for and supporting those he loved.

When he wasn’t working or spending time with family, Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing, swimming, and tackling crossword puzzles. He also served as President of the Police and Fire Commission, a role he held with great pride and dedication to his community.

Jim had a special affection for animals and treasured the companionship of his beloved dogs and cats throughout the years.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, warm heart, and remarkable ability to make those around him smile. His kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Renee (Jung) Greco; children, Carol Greco, James M. (Lori) Greco, Jon C. (Renee) Greco, Christine Greco, and Christopher (Kelly) Carter; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his cherished sister, Joanne Greco Pint; brother, Bobby Greco; and son-in-law, Michael Olson.

Visitation for Jim will be held from 1:00–3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Proko Funeral Home, where a funeral service with Military Honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

I’m truly sorry about Jim’s passing and the inevitable transition his family faces to accept of this change. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed reading his obituary! Thank you for sharing more about him! I joined Abbott in 1978. Jim was among the technology guys that taught & helped me learn so very much. To this day, his name brings a smile. He was patriotic, loyal, bright, funny, kind, helpful & trustworthy. My sincere condolences.
