Fernando Llanas, Sr.

1921 ∼ 2011

Fernando Llanas, Sr., 89, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2011, at his home. He was born in Gomez Palacio, Mexico, on May 30, 1921, the son of the late Bibiano and Paubla (Monreal) Llanas. On December 26, 1948, he married Maria Engracia Duran in Austin, TX. Fernando served in the United States Army Air Corp as a Corporal. He was honorably discharged on February 2, 1946. He received the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed as a mechanic by AMC until his retirement in 1985. Fernando grew up in Texas and on January 29, 1949, he moved to Kenosha. He was a member of St. Marks Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Latin American Society. He was a barber, a handyman around the house, and an excellent mechanic. He enjoyed baseball, gardening, crossword puzzles, walking and spending time with family. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father and grandfather. He was an exceptional role model to his family. Fernando is survived by his wife, Maria of Kenosha; his seven children, Ernesto (Kelly) Llanas of Pleasant Prairie, Alberto (Sharon) Llanas of Lake Geneva, Anita (Jim) Gibson of Eden Prairie, MN, Fernando (Tina) Llanas, Jr. of Somers, Armando Llanas of Cecil, WI, Sylvia (Mike) Buckman of Milwaukee, and Alfredo (Lili) of South Milwaukee; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Martina, Francisca and Daria; and seven brothers, Ausencio, Macario, Roman, Juan, Simon, Gabriel and Bibiano Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Lutedio, Frank, Panteleon and Octavio. Funeral services will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Saturday, May 14th, at 9:30 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Marks Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie, would be appreciated by the family.
