Gene Mecozzi was born May 9, 1940, to parents Eunice (Ludwig) and Alfred Mecozzi. He was a life-long resident of Kenosha, marrying his high school sweetheart, Sharon Repka, in 1960. There they raised a family of two boys and two girls. Together they enjoyed watching their growing family of nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Gene enjoyed his hobbies of photography, walking his dog Casey by the lake, baseball, football and movies. He was an avid Cubs and Packers fan. Simply said, Gene was all about his family. He enjoyed his talks with his brother Al, activities with his sister Karen, and close friend Donna. His favorite memories were going to the family cabin on Pine Lake and fishing, especially with his best friend and wife, Sharon, who he lost in 2008. On January 14, 2019, after a long illness and with family by his side, Gene joined his wife to continue their wonderful adventures. Funeral services were held privately per Gene’s request.Proko Funeral Home & Crematory5111-60th StreetKenosha, WI 53144Phone: (262) 654-3533Visit & Sign Gene’s Online Memorial Book At:www.prokofuneralhome.com

I only met Grandpa Gene once, and it was in 2011. Kevin [his grandson] and I were still dating, and this would be my first time in Wisconsin. When I met him, the first five seconds of seeing him I was incredibly amazed the amount of beautiful silver thick hair he had. My favorite memory with him was when he took us to the Golden Corral, and I learned he had also done photography (revealing something not a lot of people knew). What meant the most to me was I felt wholeheartedly welcomed into the family by him, and it only took the first time meeting him. Thank You, Grandpa Gene, for your incredible kindness in making me feel welcome even before I was a Mecozzi. As long as my memory serves me halfway alright, you will not be forgotten.
