Nicholas Nick Ancona

Nicholas “Nick” Ancona, 95, of Kenosha, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at United Hospital System-Kenosha Campus. He was born in Carbonara Bari, Italy, on April 10, 1919, the son of the late Lorenzo and Antoinette Ancona. He served in the Italian Army for 7 years during World War II; he was captured by the German Army and held as a POW. In 1953 he married Maria Andrea in Kenosha, WI; she preceded him in death in 1965. He later married Francesca Lacreda in Italy in 1968; she preceded him in death in 2008. Nick was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church; he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed making olive oil, wine, curing Italian meats, making sausage and mushroom hunting. Surviving Nicholas are his two children, Larry (Barb) Ancona of Kenosha and Antoinette “Toni” Sustache of Kenosha; three grandchildren, Nick Sustache, Nickolas Ancona and Michael Ancona; two step grandchildren, Joyce (Troy) Karolewicz and Jaclyn Tenuta; one step great-grandchild, Isabella Karolewicz; and special friend, Michael J. who enjoyed listening to his war stories. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews in Chicago and Italy. He is preceded in death by his two wives, Maria and Francesca; grandson, Nino “James” Sustache; sister, Lavina; and brothers, Benny, Michael Angelo, Dominic and Michael. A funeral service will be held at the Proko Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21st, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at St. George Cemetery privately. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20th, at the Proko Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. So sorry for your loss. Nick was a very great friend and mentor to me.I am sorry that I lost track of him when he moved back home to Italy. I didn't know he moved back to USA. I wish I knew. We worked together many years at MacWhyte. He was a GREAT MAN ! ! God Bless Him.
