Sylvia M. Tenuta, 86, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2013, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Born on February 8, 1927, in Racine, she was the daughter of Frank and Rose (Guiliano) Maritato. She graduated from Horlick High School. On April 26, 1947, she married John H. Tenuta at Sacred Heart Church in Racine. They then moved to Kenosha where they resided until 1979 when they moved to Naples, FL, until 1990 when they moved back to Kenosha. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2001. Sylvia was employed by Johnson Wax from 1944 until 1947; then First National Bank from 1963 until 1979; lastly at Collier County Sheriff’s Department from 1979 until her retirement in 1989. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Women’s Club and the Italian American Ladies Society. Sylvia is survived by her three children, Linda (Dr. James) Baietto of Oconomowoc, WI, John Tenuta, Jr. of Arizona and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Tenuta of Kenosha, and Michael (Patricia) Tenuta of Kenosha; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Louis (Mary) Maritato of Bartlett, IL, Mario (Lois) Maritato of Somers, and Dr. Frank R. (Diane) Maritato of Racine. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Anthony, Ralph and Jack. Sylvia’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of Regent Manor and Hospice Alliance, Inc. for all the wonderful care they extended to their mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 8th, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Green Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
