George Fortino, 93, of Kenosha, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Sheridan Medical Center/Kindred South with his family at his side. Born in Kenosha on November 13, 1919, he was the son of the late Frank and Adeline (Morrone) Fortino. He was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and was educated in local schools. On September 25, 1939, he entered the United States Army, serving in New Guinea, South Philippines and Luzon. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Service Arrowhead Ltr. 6th Army. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945. On February 1, 1947, he married Isabel DeCristofaro; she preceded him in death on January 20, 2006. He had been employed by Simmons Co. and later American Motors/Chrysler Corp. until his retirement in 1984. George was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surviving are his three children, Diana (Lawrence) Mallek of Fountain Hills, AZ, Georgette Pfeiffer of Kenosha and Frank (Cherise) Fortino of West Valley City, UT; four grandchildren, Carrie Seiberlich and David, Anthony and Eric Fortino; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Melissa Seiberlich, and Nathan Fortino. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Esther Lenfesty, Divina Andreoli, Mary Fortino, Carmella Cerminara and Ellen Cox; and two brothers, Edward and Albert Fortino. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26th, from the Proko Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery with full military honors.
