Lois Carolyn (Redstrom) Guttormsen passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at the age of 92 while residing at Regent Manor. She was born on March 2, 1919, in St. Paul, MN, the eldest daughter of John and Ruth Redstrom. Her early years were spent in Kenosha where she attended local schools. She also went to college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she met and eventually married Floyd Hans Guttormsen on June 1, 1940, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Lois was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Ruth Redstrom; sister, Ruth (Sis) Redstrom; brother, John (Sam) Redstrom; and her dear husband, Floyd Guttormsen. She will be deeply missed by her four children: Karen Harvey (Bennet) of Lake Bluff, IL; Sandra Berner of Bellingham, WA; Neil Guttormsen (Kristen) of Kenosha, WI; and Kurt Guttormsen of Kenosha, WI; ten grandchildren: Christian Berner; Heidi Deaver; Neal Berner; Dr. Brian Guttormsen; Erik Guttormsen; John Guttormsen; Scott Guttormsen; Steven Guttormsen; Robert Guttormsen; and Carin Guttormsen; and ten great-grandchildren. Lois will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who shared many fun moments with all, including summer and fall days at the “cottage” on Stearns Lake in northern Wisconsin. She also had a way of making each grandchild and great-grandchild feel “special” as an individual. Lois was an avid bridge player, a lover of the English language and a lively political conversationalist. She enjoyed classical music, crossword puzzles and historical non-fiction books. She baked the tastiest cakes for family celebrations, including the famous “butter cake” for Floyd’s birthday on each Fourth of July. Being proud of her Swedish heritage, she enjoyed many trips with family to Sweden and Norway. Lois was a long standing member of the Kenosha Women’s Club, Lois Club, St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, Friendly Center, Tuesday bowling league and numerous bridge groups. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the staff at Regent Manor and Hospice Alliance for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance of Kenosha, St. Mary’s Lutheran Church Endowment Foundation of the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. The Redstrom family from California wish to express their sympathy to the Redstrom/Guttormsen family on the death of Aunt Lois. We only learned of her death last night 6/23/11, so were unable to fly back for her memorial. My husband and I visited Lois last June, and enjoyed going over family photo albums she brought out to share with us. She sent us off with some wonderful photos of her brother (my father) and my grandparents, Grandma Ruth and Grandpa Reddy-Boy. Aunt Lois was a very gracious lady, just like her mother Grandma Ruth.
