Obituary for Bruce Fortney

Bruce R. Fortney, 46, late of Racine, formerly of Kenosha, passed away Wednesday, February 13th, 2008, at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee due to a brain aneurysm.
Born in Kenosha on August 3, 1961, he was the son of Robert and Uva Nell (Lassiter) Fortney. He attended Pleasant Prairie Grade School, Bullen Junior High School, and was a 1979 graduate of Tremper High School.
He was in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Midway during Operation Desert Storm as a Calibration Engineer, serving for nine years before his discharge. After his service in the Navy, he moved to Racine.
Bruce was a Scale Technician employed by Milwaukee Fairbanks Scale Center for 19 years.
Bruce was a member of the Pleasant Prairie Baptist Church. In high school he had been in the Tremper Stock Car Club. As a teenager he really enjoyed summer vacations in Hazelhurst with his family and also enjoyed competitive target shooting. Bruce received his private pilot license after high school and was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).
Since high school, he and his very close-knit group of friends remained close and enjoyed getting together and for camping trips.
Surviving are his parents, Robert and Uva Nell Fortney of Racine; a brother, Charles David (Connie) Fortney of Bowling Green, KY; two sisters, Edna Dianne Vera of San Antonio, TX, and Terri Lyn (Tim) Jones of Temecula, CA; two nephews, Stephen and Casey Fortney; and his two nieces, Holly and April Jones.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Toy and Edna Lassiter, and his paternal grandparents, Charles and Fannie Fortney, all Kentucky natives.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16th, at Proko Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Murray, KY. Visitation will be held on Saturday at Proko Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Sunrise Children’s Services, 300 Hope Street, P.O. Box 1429, Mt. Washington, KY 40047, or the Pleasant Prairie Baptist Church would be appreciated by the family.
