Kathleen Ann Mattson, 65, of Elmwood Park, IL, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Hospice Alliance Hospice House.
Born in Kenosha, on July 12, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Eleanor (Glass) Mattson. She graduated from Tremper High School in 1970.
Kathleen completed her LPN degree from Kenosha Technical Institute in 1971. She worked as a pediatric nurse for 14 years for Drs. Davis, Wilson, Young, & Foster. In 1986, she moved to Elmwood Park and worked in ground operations for United Airlines until 2016.
She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and athlete. She played baseball for Ken & Babe’s Derby Team for 14 years, and acquired the nickname “Scoop”. She was awarded MVP of the year in 1979. Her love of sports evolved and she started playing soccer as a goalie in 1983, for the Kenosha Kickers. She became one of the first women to referee juniors in the Kenosha Area Soccer League. Kathleen also was a certified ski instructor and race coach at Wilmot Mountain Ski School as well as the Co-Director of the youth ski program with the Royal Christie Ski Club.
Survivors include her three brothers, Larry (Noreen) Mattson, Norm (Karen) Mattson, and Doug Mattson; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Kurt, Kelly, Sara, Erik, and Megan.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Alliance and her home caregiver, Crystal Owens, for their compassionate care.
A memorial service for Kathleen will be announced and held at a later date.
